West Africa Theological Seminary (WATS) is located in Lagos, Nigeria, the most populous city in the country. They have been a partner with Drive-In since 2001. In discussing a partnership and visiting with them in the beginning, we realized that the make-up of the country was very suited for outdoor film ministry, with masses of people everywhere (small country but 7th largest population in the world), and public electricity that is turned off more than on (especially at night). This means if they drive into a village anywhere in the evening, set up the screen and equipment, start the generator and turn on the projector and sound system, the whole village will see the lights and hear the music and come to see what is going on. This would be the only “game” in town. And we were right, the attendances and responses to the movie programs have been amazing.
But not just that, a seminary has students and pastors from all over the country and beyond, and when they saw this unique evangelism tool, many wanted to be part of it, so many that the school decided to incorporate it into the evangelism courses with student teams going out many times every semester as part of their curriculum.
Over the years, Drive-In has provided several different Mobile Unit vehicles; large used step van, large truck, large bus, and now a mid-sized bus, to best handle the horrible road conditions, amount of travel and size of student teams going out. The Lord has tremendously blessed this ministry and continues too today. They are faithful and diligent in their evangelism film ministry and reporting.
